Scholarship Spotlight: BETiNS Scholarship

There is a scholarship (or many scholarships) out there for everyone. Every student has some skill, interest, experience, or characteristic that may make them an attractive candidate for one scholarship or another. And while we often refer to scholarships as “free money,” scholarships don’t actually come for free. It takes work to thoughtfully consider your strengths and research the scholarships that might be most appropriate for you. While the effort that goes into finding and winning scholarships may be akin to a part-time job, we at College Coach want to make your job a little easier. This on-going scholarship series highlights a new scholarship each week. When a student considers pursuing a degree from another country, funding is usually a concern. For U.S. students, overseas universities offer limited scholarships for undergraduate study. Similiarly, international students who want to study here in the United State face the restrictions of not being eligible for US financial aid. Both groups can spend time looking for outside scholarships like this opportunity from BETiNS International Health and Travel Insurance that can be used to cover educational costs when a student is studying outside of their home country. Scholarship: BETiNS Scholarship Awarding Organization: BETiNS International Health and Travel Insurance Amount: $5,000 Number of Scholarships Awarded: varies Eligible Students: Students must be either a U.S. Citizen/Permanent Resident studying overseas or an international student studying in the United States. Students must be graduates of a US high school (or international equivalent) and be enrolled in programs of study that are at least a year in duration. Applicants also need to meet minimum GPA and English language requirements. How to Apply: Applicants must submit up to a 500 word personal essay that addresses their “life goals and how winning this scholarship will help them achieve these goals.” Additionally, all applicants are required to submit a copy of the TOEFL, IELTS (or SAT / ACT), face sheet of current passport, documentation validating GPA, and signed release form (available online). Additional documentation is required upon receipt of the scholarship.
