I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: University of North Dakota Grand Forks, ND Offering 101 majors in everything from communication and cyber security to Norwegian and nursing, the University of North Dakota is proud to provide its over 10,000 undergraduates a top-notch education in a friendly and spirited environment. While the majority of students flock to the College of Arts & Sciences, it’s in the School of Aerospace Sciences where you’ll find the university’s popular aviation-themed majors. Future pilots, aviation managers, and unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operators will swoon over the school’s fleet of high-tech airplanes and helicopters. And thanks to career path partnership agreements with over a dozen airlines, UND ensures students’ careers will take off (literally!) after graduation. Located in the fantastic college town of Grand Forks, North Dakota, UND draws students from all fifty states, with high percentages from North Dakota and neighboring Minnesota. UND’s Fighting Hawks compete in 17 Division 1 athletic teams (including the ever-popular men’s ice hockey team that’s won eight national championships) and 50 student-led club sports. Ballroom dancing or bass fishing, anyone? While UND features the state’s largest library with over 1.6 million volumes, did you know that music lovers can also access one of the area’s most extensive music libraries on campus? It’s the perfect place for music majors to appreciate thousands of records, CDs, and musical scores. Image Credit: Top, Courtesy of University of North Dakota Getting the Most out of a College Visit
