There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: University of Idaho
The Pacific Northwest is home to a great number of environmentally responsible, friendly, and beautiful college campuses. The University of Idaho is no exception. At this hands-on and active state university, 7,200 undergrads pursue majors in everything from agricultural economics and architecture, to mechanical engineering and virtual technology & design. Within the department of psychology & communication studies you’ll find the University’s most popular major, psychology, along with a unique “addictions program” minor for students interested in becoming certified alcohol drug counselors. Moscow, ID provides an ideal backdrop for students seeking a vibrant college community with easy access to the great outdoors. Thanks to the University’s Outdoor Program, students can take advantage of whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, and snowboarding trips throughout the year. The Idaho Vandals compete in 14 D1 sports, while students can also get involved in intramural sports (like wiffle ball and badminton) and club sports (including polo and ice hockey). Good to know: through the Discover Idaho Program, out-of-state students with strong GPAs can be awarded scholarships of $2-8k annually, while National Merit Finalists (regardless of their state of residency) are eligible to receive a full scholarship package (complete with tuition, fees, room and board). No wonder an impressive 78 National Merit Finalists call U of I home!
