Choosing The Right College School Spotlight: University of Georgia Written by Elyse Krantzon September 9th, 2019 I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours. School Spotlight: University of Georgia Athens, GA What university claims the distinction of being the first state-chartered university in the country? Which university’s athletic teams have earned 29 national DI championships since 2000? Which university has graduated 7 Rhodes Scholars in the last 20 years, and 99 Fulbright Scholars in the previous 10? It’s none other than the University of Georgia! Whether you’re interested in studying finance, computer science, international affairs, or journalism, you’ll be able to study what you love together with nearly 29,000 other undergraduates at UGA. Approximately 10-15 percent of students who are admitted early action will be invited to join the University’s robust honors program, where small classes, special opportunities for undergraduate research, and even graduate-level coursework is made available to this select group of high achievers. As amazing as the city of Athens is, UGA students are eager to spend time abroad in one of the University's 170 study abroad or exchange programs. In addition to sponsoring traditional academic programs, the University also provides resources for students to pursue international work, internship, and volunteer experiences overseas.
