Tufts University

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: Tufts University Medford, MA Just five miles outside of Boston, you’ll find Tufts University, a school that’s committed to transforming its 5,500 undergraduates into active citizens of the world. International relations is one of the University’s strongest programs, with engineering, economics, computer science, and biology rounding out the five most popular majors. Students with an artistic bent can opt to pursue a 5-year BFA program with either the New England Conservatory or the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, while those looking to get a jump start on their medical careers might be eligible for early assurance admission to Tufts medical, veterinary, or dental schools. And if you love the idea of combining two (or more) academic fields, Tufts has an abundance of interdisciplinary programs including majors in biopsychology, community health, and civic studies (a brand new program beginning fall 2019). And here’s one more reason to fall for Tufts: a unique 1+4 Program that offers students the chance to pursue a full year of domestic or international community service before beginning their studies on campus. This transformative bridge-year service learning program helps students develop as leaders while combining their academic interests with civic engagement in a structured and meaningful way.  Image Credit: Top, Courtesy Trustees of Tufts College College-Visit-CTA
