There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: Pomona College
Whoever thinks that the only selective liberal arts colleges worth attending are on the East Coast, think again. Pomona College, located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, caters to intellectual, driven, and collaborative students, all of whom are passionate about something. Whether they’re thrilled by molecular biology or baseball, all 1,671 students benefit from being part of an energetic and intimate environment. Economics, Mathematics, and Computer Science are the three most popular majors, but art has a huge influence on campus. In fall 2020, the world-class Benton Museum of Art will open on campus, thanks to a generous $15 million donation from an alumna and trustee. While liberal arts ideals are certainly alive and well at Pomona, education here isn’t centered on theory alone. Students can apply for fully funded internships (both domestic and abroad), or for grants to cover at least part of their summer internship experiences. Good to know: Pomona guarantees to meet 100 percent of a student’s demonstrated need, and the average need-based grant award is $43,000!
