Choosing The Right College School Spotlight: Muhlenberg College Written by Elyse Krantzon August 29th, 2017 I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours. School Spotlight: Muhlenberg College Allentown, PA Muhlenberg College, or ‘Berg, as it’s more affectionately called, has earned a stellar reputation for delivering a top-notch liberal arts education to a passionate, engaged, and intellectual student body. The states of NJ, PA, and NY are well-represented among the College’s 2,200 students (all of whom are undergraduates), but students from nearly all 50 states call this Lehigh Valley school home. Although Muhlenberg is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, students celebrate a wide range of faith traditions. In fact, with approximately 30 percent of students identifying as Jewish, Hillel is the College’s largest student organization. What are students studying at ‘Berg? While many true liberal arts colleges don’t offer a major in business, at Muhlenberg, it’s one of the most popular academic programs. The theatre program, too, is a major draw for prospective students. With six mainstage productions each year (one of which is a musical), the theatre program allows students to focus on acting & directing, design & technology, performance studies, or minor in dance and/or music to pursue musical theatre training. If the college’s 110 clubs aren’t enough to keep you busy (including 6 a cappella groups, 15 academic honor societies, and 1 knitting club), Philadelphia is just an hour’s drive away.
