Choosing a College: Michigan Technological University

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!

School Spotlight: Michigan Technological University
Houghton, MI

Far up on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, surrounded by the spectacular Lake Superior and nestled in the small college town of Houghton, you’ll find Michigan Tech, a public research university that’s dedicated to creating technology for the future. The 5,900 undergraduates who call Tech home have access to an unbeatable array of hands-on learning opportunities, from the Enterprise Program to internships and co-ops. Working in groups to solve real client problems, students who join one of the 24 Enterprise Program teams will have the chance to develop invaluable project management and teamwork skills. Join the Supermileage Systems Enterprise group, and you’ll be sponsored by corporations such as Ford and General Motors to create high mileage vehicles that will be raced in competitions across the country. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering are the two most popular majors at Tech, but the University also offers programs in pharmaceutical chemistry, sound design, and wildlife ecology & management. As a fully residential campus, Michigan Tech provides a wide range of extracurricular outlets. Consider joining the Huskies Pep Band (no auditions necessary!), the Aquanauts Scuba Club, or Engineers Without Borders.
