There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: Louisiana State University
Baton Rouge, LA
Located in the state capital along the banks of the Mississippi River, Louisiana State University is home to nearly 25,000 undergrads, 17% of whom hail from out of state. The university sponsors popular programs in business and engineering, while the College of Agriculture features an outstanding animal science major that’s ideal for future veterinarians. A 3+1 program even gives top students the opportunity to apply to the University’s School of Veterinary Medicine during their junior year of college in order to accelerate their studies. LSU’s College of Engineering underwent major growth in 2018, with a $110 million expansion and renovation project that created one of the country’s largest free-standing engineering buildings. Socially speaking, Greek life is popular (attracting 22% of students), but there are over 450 registered student clubs and organizations to choose from, including the Muslim Student Association, Ice Hockey Club, and Physical Theatre Club. Thanks to Volunteer LSU, students also have dozens of opportunities for engaging in their local community. Fun fact: the on-campus Dairy Store serves 14 flavors of ice cream. Chocolate cookies & cream, anyone?
