Westminster College

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: Westminster College New Wilmington, PA Are you a member of the Presbyterian Church USA? If so, you are one step closer to receiving a scholarship worth $19,000 per year if you attend Westminster College! With its strong Presbyterian heritage, Westminster serves nearly 1,200 undergrads on a beautiful 300-acre campus in western Pennsylvania. The majority of students hail from PA and OH, but the College’s dedicated faculty, small classes, and outstanding internship opportunities should be attractive to any student looking for an affordable, rigorous, and meaningful liberal arts experience. Although the College offers a range of liberal arts, pre-professional, and unique interdisciplinary majors, the science program deserve special recognition. Biology is one of the three most popular majors at Westminster, and students can study everything from the Biology of Cancer and the Biology of Infectious Disease to Neurobiology and Recombinant DNA & Biotechnology. In June, the College was selected as one of 12 schools across the country to participate in the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) Transformations Project, which will provide even more opportunities for science majors to engage in hands-on research. Fun (but creepy) fact: Westminster’s campus is home to Pesed, a 2,300-year-old mummy who was donated to the College by an alum back in 1885.
