There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: North Carolina State University
As the largest four-year institution in North Carolina, NC State attracts droves of in-state students. Approximately 24,000 undergraduates are enrolled in this high energy, research-intensive university. The STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, and math) are well-known here, and, accordingly, majors in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science are among the school’s most popular. Whether you’re majoring in animal science, fashion & textile design, or professional golf management, NC State offers a fantastic co-op program that will enable you to receive hands-on experience in your chosen field. Alternating full-time studies with full-time work, students can choose from 1,000 rotations at hundreds of companies nationwide. Study abroad is popular, too, with approximately 20 percent of students choosing to spend time abroad. In addition to common destinations such as the UK, France, and Italy, the University even supports programs in Fiji, Morocco, and Singapore. Extracurricular opportunities at NC State are endless. From athletics (with 23 DI sports and 70 intramural and club sports) to Greek life (13 percent of students are involved in the University’s 49 fraternities and sororities), there’s something for everyone! Good to know: students can apply to NC State using either the Common Application or the Coalition Application.
