There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!
School Spotlight: Lawrence University
Four years ago, on April Fool’s Day 2014 to be exact, the Lawrence University admissions office published this video on YouTube. What a perfect introduction for this down-to-earth and creative liberal arts college! Known for providing individualized learning to 1,500 intellectually curious students, Lawrence is a hidden gem located in northeastern WI. In addition to offering stellar programs in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences, Lawrence also features a top-notch conservatory for undergraduate musicians. Music performance is the number one major at the University, with over 15 percent of students graduating with a B.Mus. or joint B.A./B.Mus. degree. Classes at Lawrence tend to be intimate, with nearly half of all academic courses enrolling under 20 students. Lawrence follows a trimester academic calendar, which means students take three courses at a time for three 10-week semesters. Approximately 40 percent of students study abroad in 56 cities across 28 countries. Additionally, for either a term or a full year, students can study chemistry, government, philosophy, or a host of other disciplines at Oxford University. Fun fact: located two hours north of campus on the shores of Lake Michigan is Lawrence’s Björklunden campus, a peaceful place for weekend retreats and transformative learning experiences.
