Babson College

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: Babson College Babson Park, MA Students who eat, sleep, and dream all things business will find a haven in Babson College. Located 30 minutes outside of Boston, Babson is completely dedicated to providing its 2,350 undergraduates a rich and varied business education, with a special emphasis on entrepreneurship. While many universities require that students first pursue a liberal arts curriculum before entering a business program in their sophomore or junior year, Babson students jump headfirst into the world of entrepreneurship, marketing, and accounting through a yearlong freshman course titled, “Foundations of Management and Entrepreneurship.” With a $9,000 loan from the College, students work in teams to design and execute their own business ideas, and then donate the profits to a charity of their choice. There’s more to study at Babson than just business, however. Students with additional academic interests can take classes in everything from “Introduction to Arabic” to “Waste, Consumption and Environmental Justice.” Looking for even more hands-on opportunities? Through strategic partnerships with corporations overseas, students can participate in international consulting experiences and earn four advanced elective credits in the process. This year’s lucky cohort will be heading to Lisbon, Portugal, in spring 2020. Fun fact: The co-founders of College Coach were roommates at Babson College!
