There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges, including this week’s School Spotlight, Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Located approximately 80 minutes east of Pittsburgh, Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a public university that provides its 9,200 undergrads with an unbelievably wide range of academic and extra-curricular options. While most first year students flock to the College of Health and Human Services, you can study everything from business and criminology to journalism and psychology at IUP. The University also offers a broad selection of interdisciplinary minors, providing unique opportunities for students passionate about child advocacy studies, global health, or military leadership to gain additional academic expertise. If you’re one of the select students who’s accepted into IUP’s rigorous honors program, you’ll love their combination of small classes, automatic scholarships, and a no-tests policy for all honors core classes! Outside the classroom, IUP’s Student Co-op is responsible for managing the University’s incredible assortment of student services and activities, including a 280-acre recreational park and state-of-the-art fitness center. This month, thanks to Lively Arts, which brings nearly 200 visual and performing arts events to campus each year, students can attend a student performance of Don Giovanni (IUP offers a musical theatre concentration within the theatre major), a poetry out loud competition, and TrumpetFest (a performance of student and faculty trumpeters!).
