University of Delaware

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: University of Delaware Newark, DE Situated midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore on a beautiful Georgian-inspired campus, you’ll find the University of Delaware, a public university with just over 18,000 undergraduates. Sixty percent of students hail from out of state, and many are attracted to the University’s strong programs in finance, nursing, marketing, and exercise science. But if you’re interested in more unusual programs such as insect ecology & conservation (ideal for future beekeepers!), or entrepreneurship & technology innovation, UD has a major for you. All students seeking additional enrichment opportunities are encouraged to apply for the UD Honors Program. With features like smaller class sizes, an honors residential community, and opportunities to participate in special honors study abroad trips, the UD Honors Program provides a challenging, supportive community for like-minded scholars. How do UD students show their spirit? In addition to joining any of the over 400 registered student organizations, Blue Hens can show their pride by joining the UD Marching Band, UD Cheerleading, the nationally-ranked UD Dance Team, or the Cockpit – the student fan group that cheers on athletes at all home games. Starting this winter, UD will be embarking on a major construction project that will create a brand new, state-of-the-art facility for its Division 1 athletes.
