Choosing The Right College School Spotlight: Trinity College Dublin Written by Elyse Krantzon December 4th, 2018 I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours. And for some students, this includes schools beyond the U.S., too! As such, we are highlighting an international college this week in our School Spotlight series. School Spotlight: Trinity College Dublin Dublin, Ireland The European capital city of Dublin is home to Ireland’s treasured and historic Trinity College Dublin, which enrolls approximately 17,000 students from 110 countries around the world. Known for its strengths in nursing, English (alumni include Samuel Beckett and Oscar Wilde!), classics, and international studies, Trinity offers a broad array of undergraduate programs in the arts, humanities, and sciences, including 5-year professional bachelor degrees in the fields of medicine, dental science, and pharmacy. Trinity’s vibrant and spirited campus engages students both in and out of the classroom. The College features 120 societies (clubs), including archeological society, food and drink, and DU players (the campus theatrical society that produces nearly 60 shows per year), as well as 50 club sports. The national championship-winning men’s and women’s crew teams practice five times a week on the River Liffney, located just minutes from campus. In addition to supporting a large international population, Trinity encourages students to travel abroad through one of its 300 international exchange opportunities. Thanks to partnerships all over the world (including McGill University in Canada, Tokyo University in Japan, and University of Pennsylvania right here in the U.S.), Trinity students can experience a global education in any course of study. Admissions fact: U.S. students must have at least a 3.3 GPA and earn a minimum of 1290 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT to be considered for admission to the College.
