Choosing a College: Juniata College

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school!

School Spotlight: Juniata College
Huntingdon, PA

Future doctors, out-of-the-box thinkers, and student athletes all find a home at Juniata College, an engaging, community-oriented college located in central PA. Juniata (pronounced joo-nee-ah-tuh) boasts amazingly high four-year graduation rates (94 percent) and acceptance rates into graduate and professional schools  (90 percent for their pre-med/pre-health students), and yet they are not your typical liberal arts college. Rather than “majors,” Juniata offers “Programs of Emphasis,” where students are free to design their own course of study that’s perfectly suited to their unique interests and needs. And with two faculty advisors assigned to each student, there’s always an expert ready to guide you. So what makes Juniata such an amazing place for prospective health care professionals? In addition to small classes and a tremendous array of research opportunities, Juniata offers a nurturing and collaborate classroom experience that fosters crucial critical thinking and problem solving skills. Plus, with formal articulation agreements with 14 different professional schools, Juniata is well-positioned to advance the careers of future dentists, doctors, pharmacists, and more. Fun fact: among the college’s 21 DIII sports teams, the women’s volleyball team is a clear standout having won 37 conference and 2 national championships since 1981.
