Ithaca College

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: Ithaca College Ithaca, NY Artists and athletes, musicians and mathematicians… no matter what your passion, you will feel at home at Ithaca College. With nearly 100 majors to choose from, talented students from across the country and around the world are drawn to Ithaca’s welcoming campus in central New York State. Some of the College’s most popular academic programs are also their most competitive. For students interested in physical therapy, IC offers one of the oldest and most well-known BS/DPT degrees in the country. After six years of accelerated study, students can earn both their bachelor’s in clinical health studies and professional doctorate in physical therapy. And for those who live and breathe musical theatre, imagine immersing yourself in IC’s performance-oriented BFA program. With weekly private voice lessons all four years, as well as intensive training in acting and dance, IC’s musical theatre alumni are well prepared to launch their careers on Broadway or off. The DIII Ithaca Bombers compete in 27 varsity sports and recently joined the Liberty League, which counts Clarkson, Skidmore, the University of Rochester, and Vassar among its members. Fun fact: if nearby Cornell University offers a course that the College doesn’t, you can take it! IC students can cross-register for up to one Cornell class per semester.
