Elon University

I became interested in the college admissions process after serving as a student tour guide in the admissions office of my alma mater. After graduating, I accepted an admissions counseling position at Bennington College in Vermont where I evaluated applications and reviewed art portfolios from students across the country. Three years later, after pursuing my master's degree in New York City, I joined the admissions staff at Barnard College where I served as a senior admissions officer. At Barnard, I directed Long Island and Boston recruitment in addition to managing the College's alumnae interview program, coordinating admissions statistics, and editing various college publications. Having also served as an alumni interviewer for Dartmouth College and visited over 75 colleges, I feel especially well-equipped to help students prepare for admission interviews and campus tours.

There are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the U.S. And while the media tends to focus on just a handful of schools, we at College Coach encourage students to think outside the box during their college selection process and explore a wide range of colleges. As such, we are highlighting a new college each week in our School Spotlight series. Check out the college below, along with the other posts in our series, and you may just stumble upon your dream school! School Spotlight: Elon University Elon, NC Given its ideal size (just 6,200 undergraduates), perfect weather, and historic 656-acre campus, it’s no wonder that this private liberal arts university is such an attractive option for students from across the country. At Elon University, students can study everything from applied mathematics to media analytics. Most students enroll in the College of Arts & Sciences, which, in addition to offering traditional BA and BS degree programs, also confers the BFA in fields such as studio art, acting, musical theatre, and dance performance & choreography. The Love School of Business is also a major draw for prospective students. Beyond its traditional majors and minors in fields such as accounting, entrepreneurship, and finance, the School of Business offers a unique dual degree program for students seeking an immersive international experience. After spending two years on Elon’s campus, students in the business dual degree program then complete their studies at a partner university (in Germany, France, Italy, or Spain), ultimately earning two bachelor degrees in four years. Elon’s popular core curriculum ensures that all students receive a healthy variety of coursework from a range of disciplines, but the University’s required experiential learning component ensures that 100 percent of graduates participate in an internship, study abroad experience, research opportunity, service-learning project, or assume a leadership position before they graduate. An impressive 78 percent of undergraduates study abroad during their time at Elon! Photo credit: Top, Courtesy of Elon University College-Visit-CTA
